Creativity
Tune how far the agent strays from instructions and references.
The creativity parameter tunes the agent's behavior towards or away from risk-taking and experimentation. It accepts three levels.
| Level | Name | Behavior |
|---|---|---|
0 | Literal | Follows instructions exactly; won't venture away from the provided brand, rules, or references. For simple, well-defined tasks like template fills. |
1 | Balanced | The default. Follows the brief faithfully while exercising judgment where it's silent. |
2 | Adventurous | Takes more risks in pursuit of greater visual excellence — bolder layouts, unexpected compositions. The harness works harder to keep the result cohesive. |
When to use which
Creativity 0 — mechanical work. Template fills, mechanical changes, and other well-defined tasks where the right answer is fully determined by the references. Cheapest and most predictable.
The trade-off at level 0
Literal interpretation means the agent won't improvise when something doesn't fit — copy that's too long for the template won't be gracefully condensed, and an unexpected reference won't be adapted around. It can also fail to recover in unusual circumstances. If your task has any ambiguity, prefer 1.
Creativity 1 — default. Use for essentially everything else: creating designs from briefs, editing with feedback, brand-driven generation.
Creativity 2 — ideation. Use when you want to be surprised: candidate concepts, ad creative exploration, "give me options". Pair it with multiple named outputs and pick the best.

}Creativity and brand safety
Higher creativity never means "looser brand adherence": fonts, colors, logos, and imagery from your references are always used as-is — see exact brand adherence. Rivermark may adapt them contextually where the design needs it (for example, recoloring a logo white so it reads on a dark background), but never approximates or redraws them. What changes is how freely the agent composes around them.
Likewise, auto-review runs at every level; higher creativity simply means the agent explores a wider space of possible solutions before settling.
